Sonego downs Mannarino 6-1 7-6 in Winston-Salem opener
Lorenzo Sonego needed only two sets to see off Adrian Mannarino 6-1 7-6 in the Winston-Salem round of 32, storming through the opener before surviving a far tighter second in a tie-break. The Italian's serve was the difference: nine aces against just one double fault, with 76.2 percent of his first-serve points won and half of his second-serve points claimed. Mannarino, by contrast, landed only 49.3 percent of first serves and won 57.1 percent of those points, adding four double faults. With his delivery firing, Sonego moved through on the hard courts without dropping a set.
