Rottgering downs Machac 6-2 7-6 in Winston-Salem second round

Mees Rottgering produced the cleaner tennis to beat Tomas Machac 6-2 7-6 in the Round of 32 at Winston-Salem, taking control early and then holding firm through a tense second-set tiebreak. The Dutchman's serve was the difference: eight aces against a single double fault, 62.9% of first serves in and 79.5% of those points won. Machac, by contrast, landed only 56.5% of first serves, coughed up seven double faults and won just 32.4% behind his second delivery. It was a straight-sets statement on hard court for Rottgering, who never let the match drift.
