Draxl edges Mejia in three sets in US Open qualifying
Liam Draxl came through a three-set test against Nicolas Mejia, 6-4 6-7 6-4, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Canadian's serve carried him in the tight moments: 11 aces against Mejia's four, 61.1% of first serves in play and 72.7% of those points won, comfortably clear of the Colombian's 55.1% and 68.5%. Second serve offered neither man much refuge, with Draxl winning 47.6% and Mejia 47.7%, and the Canadian's five double faults kept the margins slim. Having survived a lost second-set tie-break, Draxl moved a win from the main draw in New York.
