Shubladze rallies past Soboleva in US Open qualifying
Alexandra Shubladze recovered from a first-set tie-break to beat Anastasiya Konstantinovna Soboleva 6-7 6-1 6-4 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Russian's platform was her first delivery: she landed 69.3% of first serves and won 65.3% of those points, while Soboleva found the court with only 54.5% of hers and had to defend far more often behind the second ball. Soboleva was the sharper striker when her first serve did land, taking 73.8% of those points, but the volume was never there. Shubladze's seven double faults did not cost her, and she moved a step closer to the main draw.
