Semenistaja beats Kinoshita 6-2 7-5 in US Open qualifying

Darja Semenistaja moved through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a 6-2 7-5 win over Hayu Kinoshita, controlling the first set and then edging a much tighter second. The Latvian's serve was the difference: she landed 68.3 percent of her first deliveries, won 68.3 percent of those points and 57.9 percent behind her second, and never faced the burden of a double fault. Kinoshita struck three aces but put only 60.3 percent of first serves in, winning 53.7 percent of them and 51.9 percent on second, with four double faults adding to the strain.
