Avdeeva downs Sebov 7-6 6-1 in US Open qualifying
Julia Avdeeva came through a tense opening set before running away with the match, beating Katherine Sebov 7-6, 6-1 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Russian's serve was the difference: she struck six aces to Sebov's one and won 75.6% of her first-serve points, and even behind a modest 63.1% first-serve rate she still took 58.3% of her second-serve points. Sebov landed 80.8% of her first serves but won only 62.7% of those points, and her second delivery was punished, yielding just 35.7%. The win carried Avdeeva into the final round of qualifying in New York.
