Jones beats Brancaccio 6-3 6-4 in US Open qualifying
Francesca Jones came through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a controlled straight-sets win over Nuria Brancaccio, 6-3 6-4. The Briton's serve barely wobbled: she landed 65.5% of first deliveries, won 71.1% of those points and, crucially, 70% behind her second serve, so there was almost nothing for the Italian to attack. Brancaccio actually edged the first-serve exchanges at 73.1%, but she found the court with only 56.5% of them and won just 45% of second-serve points, with five double faults compounding the problem. For Jones, it was another step closer to the main draw in New York.
