Bassols rallies past Astakhova to reach US Open qualifying semis

Marina Bassols recovered from a set down to beat Darya Astakhova 4-6 7-6 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Spaniard's first delivery carried her through the turnaround, winning 66.1% of first-serve points to Astakhova's 61.5%, even though she landed only 62.1% of them and coughed up seven double faults. Astakhova was the tidier server on paper, with five aces to one and 71.6% of first serves in, but she won just 32.3% behind her second ball, a leak Bassols exploited once the match went long. It puts the Spaniard one win from the main draw.
