Liutova edges Prozorova in three sets in US Open qualifying
Kristina Liutova came through an all-Russian three-setter in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals, beating Tatiana Prozorova 6-4 4-6 6-2 after surrendering the second set. The difference lay behind the second serve: Liutova won 48.1 percent of her second-serve points, while Prozorova managed just 32.3 percent, a gap that told in the decider. Liutova also found the court more often, landing 66.2 percent of her first serves to her opponent's 60.3, and kept the errors down with a single double fault to Prozorova's two. The win moved her a step closer to the main draw.
