Martyna Kubka recovered from a first-set tiebreak loss to beat Annika Penickova 6-7 6-4 6-2 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Pole found her range as the match wore on, landing 57.4 percent of first serves and winning 60.3 percent of those points, while her eight aces matched Penickova's tally. The decisive gap came behind the second delivery: Kubka took 53.5 percent of those points against just 41.7 percent for her opponent, who put only 52.5 percent of first serves in play. Five double faults did not cost Kubka, who moved a step closer to the main draw.
