Duckworth edges Navone 6-3 7-6 in Winston-Salem opener

James Duckworth came through in straight sets against Mariano Navone, 6-3 7-6, to reach the second round in Winston-Salem. The Australian's first serve landed only 43.9 percent of the time, but it was close to unplayable when it did: he won 77.8 percent of those points, against 61.7 percent for Navone. Duckworth also held firm behind the second ball, taking 52.2 percent to the Argentine's 50.0, and struck four aces to one, enough to offset six double faults. That margin told in the second-set tie-break, where the hard-court match was finally settled.
