Budkov Kjaer edges Kasnikowski in three at US Open qualifying
Nicolai Budkov Kjaer came through a three-set battle at US Open qualifying, beating Maks Kasnikowski 7-6 4-6 6-4 to reach the final round of the draw. The Norwegian took a first-set tie-break, was pegged back 6-4 in the second, then found the single break he needed in the decider. His serve carried him despite landing only 56.1% of first deliveries, with 73.4% of those points won and six aces, enough to offset five double faults. Kasnikowski matched him with six aces and just one double fault, and won 55.8% behind his second serve, but 68.9% on first serve left him short.
