Hruncakova downs Riera in straight sets in US Open qualifying
Viktoria Hruncakova came through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a controlled 6-3 6-4 win over Argentina's Julia Riera. Neither woman found much rhythm on first serve, Hruncakova landing 49.3 percent and Riera 46.6, so the match turned on what happened behind it: Hruncakova won 61.8 percent of her second-serve points, while Riera managed only 45.2 and coughed up nine double faults to her opponent's seven. Hruncakova's seven aces gave her the cheap points Riera, with four, could not match. The straight-sets result carried her a step closer to the main draw.
