Darderi rallies past Bellucci in Winston-Salem opener
Luciano Darderi recovered from a poor start to beat fellow Italian Mattia Bellucci 2-6 6-4 6-2 in the Winston-Salem round of 32. Bellucci struck eight aces to Darderi's three and landed 64.7 percent of his first serves, but he won only 50 percent of his second-serve points, and that leak widened as the match went on. Darderi, despite five double faults and a modest 59.5 percent first-serve rate, was the more productive server overall, taking 72.3 percent behind his first ball and 56.2 percent behind his second. The all-Italian win put him into the second round.
