Piros routs Alcala Gurri 6-2 6-1 in US Open qualifying
Zsombor Piros needed only two lopsided sets to see off Max Alcala Gurri 6-2, 6-1 in the qualifying quarterfinals at the US Open. The Hungarian's serve was erratic by the numbers — just 40.6% of first balls landed, with five double faults — yet he won 61.5% behind the first delivery and a healthy 57.9% behind the second, enough to keep the pressure squarely on the other end. Alcala Gurri found the court more often, at 60.5%, but took only 42.3% of those points and 35.3% on his second serve, a shortfall that made his service games a constant scramble. Piros moves through with a comprehensive win to show for it.
