Gaston beats Justo 7-5 6-3 in US Open qualifying quarterfinals
Hugo Gaston came through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a controlled 7-5 6-3 win over Gonzalo Justo. The Frenchman landed only 41.9% of his first serves, but he was close to untouchable when he did, winning 84.6% of those points and enough of the rest to edge a tight opening set. Justo put more balls in play at 56.7% yet won just 55.9% behind his first delivery, and with both men hovering around the mid-40s on second serve, that gap decided the match. Gaston moves a step nearer the main draw.
