Gea edges Nagal 6-3 7-6 in US Open qualifying quarterfinals
Arthur Gea came through 6-3 7-6 against Sumit Nagal to reach the final qualifying round at the US Open. The Frenchman landed only 51.9% of his first serves, but he made them count, winning 78.6% of those points and striking five aces to Nagal's one. The second set turned into a tiebreak because neither man gave much away behind the second ball, Gea taking 56.4% of his second-serve points and Nagal 56.0%. Three double faults never cost Gea the initiative, and the straight-sets win left him one match from the main draw.
