Llamas Ruiz edges Bolt in straight sets in US Open qualifying
Pablo Llamas Ruiz came through a tight, tense straight-setter against Alex Bolt, 7-6 7-5, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Spaniard landed only 61.8 percent of his first serves but made them count, winning 78.7 percent of those points and 58.6 percent behind his second delivery. Bolt was the cleaner server on paper, with three aces to one, no double faults and 67.2 percent of first serves in, yet his 73.2 percent won behind the first ball could not force a set away from his opponent. Two double faults aside, Llamas Ruiz held firm when the margins shrank.
