Harris edges Tomic in three sets in US Open qualifying
Lloyd Harris came through a three-set battle with Bernard Tomic 6-2 5-7 6-2 to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The South African set the tone with his delivery, striking six aces to Tomic's none and winning 77.1 percent of his first-serve points against the Australian's 69.0. Tomic hit back to take the second set 7-5, but Harris's edge behind the second ball, 53.3 percent of those points won to 51.9, kept the margins in his favour. Just two double faults from a 61.5 percent first-serve rate underlined how cleanly he closed it out.
