Sachko edges Onclin 7-5 7-5 in US Open qualifying quarterfinals
Vitaliy Sachko came through a pair of tight sets to beat Gauthier Onclin 7-5 7-5 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals, both sets turning only once the finish line was in sight. The Ukrainian's serve was the difference: he struck 14 aces to Onclin's one and won 71.7 percent of his first-serve points, against 57.8 percent for the Belgian, even though he landed only 59 percent of first deliveries. Sachko's second serve was the weak link at 34.4 percent won, but two double faults kept the damage minimal. He moves within one match of the main draw.
