Hibino edges tiebreak, rolls past Preston in US Open qualifying
Nao Hibino needed a tiebreak to settle the opening set, then ran away with the second for a 7-6 6-1 win over Janae Preston in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Japanese player's first delivery was close to untouchable, landing 69.8 percent of them and winning 97.7 percent of those points, with four aces to back it up. Preston, by contrast, found only 53.2 percent of her first serves and paid for six double faults, leaving her exposed on a second ball that returned just 50 percent. Hibino moves within one win of the main draw.
