Havlickova beats Yaneva 6-2 7-5 in US Open qualifying
Lucie Havlickova came through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Elizara Yaneva, controlling the opening set before surviving a much tighter second. The Czech's serve carried her despite its rough edges: only 58.3% of first serves landed and she coughed up seven double faults, but she won 69% of points behind the first ball and held firm at 50% on the second. Yaneva put more first serves in play at 63.4% yet won just 57.8% of those points, and her second delivery, worth only 34.6%, proved the difference. Havlickova moved a step closer to the main draw.
