Jorda Sanchis edges Squire in US Open qualifying decider

David Jorda Sanchis came through a three-set battle in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals, beating Henri Squire 6-2 2-6 7-6 to reach the final round. The Spaniard set the tone with 10 aces and won 69.4 percent of his first-serve points, while landing 62 percent of his first deliveries. Squire actually edged that first-strike battle, taking 73.1 percent behind his first serve, but he was undone by 12 double faults and only 45.7 percent of second-serve points won. Jorda Sanchis, who won half his own second-serve points and dropped six doubles, held firm in the tiebreak to close it out.
