Mochizuki edges Milavsky in straight sets in US Open qualifying

Shintaro Mochizuki came through a tight straight-setter against Daniel Milavsky, 7-6 6-4, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Japanese player landed only 44.6% of his first serves and coughed up nine double faults, but he was ruthless when the first ball did go in, winning 75.8% of those points. The difference came behind the second serve: Mochizuki took 48.8% of his, while Milavsky managed just 37.9%, a leak that undercut the American's tidier numbers of 65.5% first serves in and only three double faults. Seven aces from Milavsky were not enough to force a decider.
