Parry recovers from set down to beat Vekic in Monterrey
Diane Parry came from a set down to knock out Donna Vekic 6-7 6-4 6-1 in the Monterrey first round, running away with the decider after two tight sets. The Frenchwoman's serve carried her through the turnaround: she won 83.3% of her first-serve points and a healthy 58.5% behind the second, striking eight aces against just three double faults. Vekic, by contrast, landed 55.0% of her first serves and took only 42.2% of her second-serve points, with ten double faults undermining her hold games. It was a statement win for Parry on hard court.
