Gorgodze rallies past Kawa in three sets in US Open qualifying
Ekaterine Gorgodze recovered from a set down to beat Katarzyna Kawa 3-6 7-6 6-2 in the final round of US Open qualifying. The Georgian's platform was her first delivery: she landed 68.9% of first serves and won 63.4% of those points, a steadiness Kawa could not match at 54.2% first serves in. Behind her second ball Gorgodze was vulnerable, winning just 31.2% of those points against the Pole's 43.2%, but the tiebreak swung the match and she pulled clear in the decider. Both hit three aces and three double faults, and Gorgodze reached the main draw.
