Grant beats Broadus in straight sets in US Open qualifying
Tyra Caterina Grant moved into the final round of US Open qualifying with a controlled 6-2 6-4 win over Savannah Broadus, taking command early and never surrendering the initiative. The Italian's serve was the steadier of the two, landing 61.7% of first deliveries and winning 67.6% of those points, while an unusually solid 65.2% behind the second serve left Broadus with few openings. The American, by contrast, found only 48.8% of first serves and won just 39.5% of her second-serve points, with four double faults compounding the pressure. It was a clean, efficient performance from Grant at the quarterfinal stage.
