Montgomery routs Cross 6-1 6-1 in US Open qualifying
Robin Montgomery needed little more than an hour's worth of dominance to sweep past Kayla Cross 6-1 6-1 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The American's returning did the damage: Cross landed 71.1% of her first serves but won just 44.4% of those points, and only 45.5% behind her second, leaving her defenceless against a single break per set and more. Montgomery, by contrast, found only 56% of her first deliveries yet won 85.7% of them, with four double faults never becoming costly. The result carried her within one win of the main draw.
