Francisca Jorge beats Jimenez Kasintseva 6-3 6-3 in US Open qualifying
Francisca Jorge controlled her US Open qualifying quarterfinal from start to finish, seeing off Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva 6-3 6-3 in two efficient sets. The Portuguese landed only 59.3% of her first serves but was rarely troubled behind either delivery, winning 62.5% of first-serve points and an unusually high 68.2% of her second-serve points. Jimenez Kasintseva found the box far more often, at 72.6%, yet won just 51.1% of those points and 47.1% behind the second ball, while five double faults undid her three aces. The win carried Jorge a step closer to the main draw.
