Wendelken edges Travaglia in three sets in US Open qualifying
Harry Wendelken came through a three-set battle with Stefano Travaglia, 6-4 3-6 6-3, to advance from the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Briton's first serve was erratic — just 46.4% landed — but it was punishing when it arrived, winning 73.3% of those points against the 60.5% Travaglia managed behind his own. The Italian's seven aces to Wendelken's two showed the sharper weapon, and his 58.5% behind the second serve outdid the Briton's 48.1%, yet neither could stem the five double faults each. Wendelken's edge on first-serve points proved the difference and carried him another round closer to the main draw.
