Podrez outlasts Dolehide in three sets in US Open qualifying
Veronika Podrez survived a match of wild swings to beat Caroline Dolehide 6-2 0-6 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Ukrainian's serve was the story in both directions: she landed only 53.6 percent of her first deliveries and coughed up 10 double faults, yet when the first ball went in she won 71.1 percent of those points, enough to bookend the blank second set. Dolehide was far steadier in the box at 73.9 percent, but her four aces and 57.3 percent of first-serve points offered too little cushion. Podrez moves through in the qualifying draw.
