Pinnington Jones edges Svajda 7-6 6-4 in US Open qualifying

Jack Pinnington Jones came through a tight, serve-dominated afternoon to beat American Trevor Svajda 7-6 6-4 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Briton landed only 47.4 percent of his first serves, but he made them count, winning 80.6 percent of those points and firing eight aces to Svajda's four. Svajda was the steadier server in terms of accuracy at 53.5 percent, yet he took just 63.2 percent of his first-serve points and 42.4 percent behind the second, never quite building enough pressure. Pinnington Jones survived six double faults and moved a win from the main draw.
