Koevermans edges Monnet 6-4 7-6 in US Open qualifying
Anouk Koevermans came through a tight, two-set contest against Carole Monnet, 6-4 7-6, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Dutchwoman's edge came on serve: she won 76.7% of her first-serve points and, crucially, 69.6% behind her second, while Monnet managed just 38.5% on hers. Monnet landed more first serves, 71.7% to 65.2%, but won only 68.2% of those points and coughed up five double faults to Koevermans' three. Six aces to two underlined the difference in free points, and the second set was settled in a tiebreak. Koevermans moved a win from the main draw.
