Brengle downs Gasanova 6-4 6-1 in US Open qualifying
Madison Brengle controlled her US Open qualifying quarterfinal from start to finish, edging the opening set 6-4 before running away with the second 6-1 against Anastasia Gasanova. The American's serve was the platform: she landed 78.5 percent of her first deliveries, won 58.8 percent of those points and coughed up just one double fault all afternoon. Gasanova, by contrast, found only 61.5 percent of her first serves, won 43.8 percent behind them and 35.0 percent behind her second, while eight double faults handed over cheap ground. Neither player struck an ace. Brengle moved a win from the main draw.
