Cecchinato edges Broady 7-6 6-3 in US Open qualifying
Marco Cecchinato came through a tense opening set and then pulled clear, beating Liam Broady 7-6 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Italian's serve was the steadier of the two all afternoon: he landed 65.6 percent of first serves and won 71.2 percent of those points, without a single double fault. Broady kept pace behind his first delivery, winning 72.3 percent of those points, but he found it in only 57.3 percent of the time, and four double faults plus 54.3 percent behind the second serve left him exposed. Cecchinato moved a step closer to the main draw.
