Stefanini downs Aksu in straight sets in US Open qualifying
Lucrezia Stefanini needed only two efficient sets to beat Ayla Aksu 6-2 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Italian's serve was the platform: she landed 71.7% of her first deliveries and won 69.7% of those points, conceding just one double fault all afternoon. Aksu, by contrast, found only 57.1% of her first serves and won 46.4% of them, while four double faults kept handing back the initiative. With 33.3% of second-serve points won by the Turk, the pressure never lifted. Stefanini moves through to the final qualifying round in New York.
