Pareja routs Day 6-3 6-1 in US Open qualifying quarterfinals
Julieta Pareja needed only two brisk sets to see off fellow American Kayla Day 6-3, 6-1 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The match turned on the second ball: Pareja won 53.3% of her second-serve points while Day managed just 38.1%, and Day's four double faults handed over cheap ground at the worst moments. Day's five aces were the only real weapon she had, as she landed 55.3% of first serves but won just 53.8% of those points, against 68.8% for Pareja. The straight-sets win carried Pareja through to the final qualifying round in New York.
