Ibragimova downs Sramkova 6-2 6-4 in US Open qualifying
Alevtina Ibragimova controlled her US Open qualifying quarterfinal from the start, taking out Rebecca Sramkova 6-2, 6-4 without ever losing her grip on the match. The Russian's serve was the difference: she landed 64% of her first deliveries and won 75% of those points, while also holding up behind the second ball at 55.6%. Sramkova, by contrast, found only 56.9% of her first serves and won 62.2% of them, and her second serve leaked badly at 39.3%. Five double faults were Ibragimova's only blemish, offset by her steadier rhythm on serve. The win carried her into the qualifying semifinals.
