Burel Beats Ma 6-4 6-2 to Reach US Open Qualifying Semis
Clara Burel controlled her US Open qualifying quarterfinal from start to finish, dismissing Yexin Ma 6-4 6-2 in straight sets. The French player landed only 48.1% of her first serves, yet it barely mattered: she won 72.0% of those points and an outstanding 77.8% behind her second delivery, leaving Ma with almost nothing to attack. The Chinese player got 53.3% of her first serves in but converted just 66.7% of them and 61.9% of her second-serve points. With one ace and two double faults apiece, the difference was purely in the points won, and Burel moved a step closer to the main draw.
