Ferreira Silva beats Dedura Palomero in US Open qualifying
Frederico Ferreira Silva came through the US Open qualifying quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Diego Dedura Palomero, edging a tight opening set before pulling clear in the second. The Portuguese landed only 60.7 percent of his first serves, but he made them count, winning 78.4 percent of those points and an impressive 62.5 percent behind his second delivery despite three double faults. Dedura Palomero was steadier in finding the box at 67.2 percent, yet won just 63.4 percent of first-serve points and exactly half behind his second. That margin decided it, and it carried Ferreira Silva a round closer to the main draw.
