Fearnley beats Carballes Baena in US Open qualifying quarters

Jacob Fearnley came through a tight opening set and then pulled clear, beating Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Briton's first delivery was the difference: he landed 58.6 percent of his first serves and won 80.4 percent of those points, backed by seven aces to his opponent's one. Carballes Baena found only 50 percent of his first serves and took 68.6 percent of them, leaving him under constant pressure even though he won 57.1 percent behind the second ball. Fearnley's seven double faults never cost him the match, and he moved a step closer to the main draw.
