Rodionov beats Coppejans 6-1 6-4 in US Open qualifying
Jurij Rodionov moved into the final round of US Open qualifying with a controlled 6-1 6-4 win over Kimmer Coppejans. The Austrian raced through the opening set and, though the second was tighter, he never surrendered the initiative. His first serve landed only 51.7 percent of the time, but it was heavily rewarded when it did, winning 73.3 percent of those points, and his second delivery held up too at 57.1 percent, with four aces and a single double fault. Coppejans found the court more often at 60.3 percent yet won just 62.9 percent behind it. Rodionov is now one win from the main draw.
