Vidmanova edges Udvardy in three sets to reach Monterrey main draw

Darja Vidmanova came through a swinging qualifying final in Monterrey, taking the opening set 6-3, losing the second by the same score and then reasserting herself 6-3 in the decider. The Czech landed just 50.6% of her first serves but made them count, winning 64.1% of those points to Panna Udvardy's 56.1%, and she was the steadier of the two behind the second ball as well at 42.1% against 37.1%. Udvardy's eight double faults, five more than her opponent's three, undercut her own six aces to Vidmanova's five. The reward for the Czech was a place in the main draw.
