Shelbayh edges Suresh in three sets to reach Winston-Salem main draw
Abedallah Shelbayh came through a three-set qualifying final at Winston-Salem, beating Dhakshineswar Suresh 6-3 3-6 6-3 to earn his place in the main draw. The Jordanian's advantage lay in consistency rather than firepower: he landed 59.8% of his first serves against 52.6% for Suresh, which kept him out of trouble even though the Indian struck 10 aces to his six. Suresh was the more dangerous man when his first delivery landed, winning 80.0% of those points to Shelbayh's 70.9%, but he simply offered it too rarely. Both men served four double faults.
