Hazelitt beats Lam 6-2 7-6 to reach US Open final
Jordyn Hazelitt reached the US Open final by beating Shannon Lam 6-2 7-6 in the semifinals, controlling the opening set before surviving a far tighter second. The difference was second-serve quality: Hazelitt won 54.8 percent of her second-serve points, while Lam managed just 25 percent behind hers and coughed up seven double faults. Lam actually landed more first serves, 61.1 percent to 53, but won only 54.5 percent of those points against Hazelitt's 71.4. With one ace and three double faults of her own, Hazelitt kept the margins clean and closed out a place in the final without dropping a set.
