Udvardy edges Arango in Monterrey qualifying decider
Panna Udvardy came through a three-set swing in the Monterrey qualifying semifinals, beating Emiliana Arango 6-3 1-6 7-6 to reach the final round. The Hungarian took the opener, was overwhelmed in a 6-1 second set, then held her nerve in a tie-break to settle it. Her serve was the shakier of the two on paper: just 57.7% of first deliveries landed, against 64.7% for Arango, and she won only 43.2% behind the second ball while the Colombian took 53.3%. Five double faults apiece underlined the tension, but Udvardy's 66.7% on first-serve points kept her afloat when it counted.
