Tiafoe beats Nakashima 7-5 6-3 to reach Cincinnati final
Frances Tiafoe came through an all-American semifinal at the Cincinnati Masters 1000, edging Brandon Nakashima 7-5 6-3 after grinding out a tight opening set and pulling clear in the second. The difference was what each man did behind a first serve neither found often: Tiafoe landed just 52.0% of them but won 76.9% of those points, while Nakashima put in 51.5% and won only 60.0%. Nakashima struck nine aces to Tiafoe's seven and hit only two double faults against five, but his 48.5% on second serve could not offset the gap. The win carried Tiafoe into the final.
