Herbert edges past Miyoshi in three sets in Winston-Salem qualifying
Pierre-Hugues Herbert needed three sets to get through the Winston-Salem qualifying semifinals, taking the opener 6-2, dropping the second 4-6 and then reasserting himself 6-2 in the decider. The Frenchman's serving was erratic — just 52.2% of first deliveries landed and he coughed up 10 double faults — but when he found the box he was hard to touch, winning 72.3% of those points. Miyoshi, by contrast, got only 42.7% of first serves in and took a modest 57.9% behind them, a margin Herbert exploited. The win carried the Frenchman into the final qualifying round.
