Pegula edges Anisimova in Cincinnati quarterfinal decider
Jessica Pegula came through an all-American quarterfinal at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, beating Amanda Anisimova 6-4 2-6 7-6 in a match that needed a final-set tiebreak to separate them. The serving lines were almost identical on first delivery, Pegula landing 59.6 percent and winning 66.1 percent of those points, Anisimova 59.8 percent and 67.2 percent. The gap came behind the second ball, where Pegula won 55.3 percent against her opponent's 48.7, and she was tidier too with two double faults to three. That steadiness carried her into the semifinals.
