Fritz eases past Merida in straight sets in Cincinnati
Taylor Fritz needed just two sets to see off Daniel Merida 6-3 6-4 in the Cincinnati round of 32, controlling the match from the baseline and, above all, from the service line. The American struck eight aces without a single double fault, landed 67.2% of first serves and won 76.7% of those points, giving Merida almost nothing to attack. The difference came behind the second delivery: Fritz claimed 61.9% of his second-serve points, while the Spaniard managed only 35.3% of his. Merida's own first serve held up at 75.0%, but it was not enough. Fritz moves on without dropping a set.
